Travel Update: Colorado pt. 2
Location: Powderhorn, Colorado
Distance: 1,023 mi (16 hr 45 min drive)
Activity: 3 day hike (16.5 mi hike)
Elevation: 12,500 ft.
Number of Injuries: Priceless
How was the trip? Falling numerous times, scaling the side of a mountain, and waking up with ‘the lux” on the last day of the hike. This trip was probably one of the hardest things that I had to endure.
On this trip, I learned that I was not as patient, especially with myself. It seemed like a lot was going wrong. What made it worst was the internal anxiety that built up each time I would not gain the thing I wanted most, control. If anything, this trip consistently humbled me.
Summit
15,000 ft.
7:30 a.m.
The day of reaching summit, I was overwhelmed with a sense of acquiescence that entire morning. Looking down from the peak and seeing the small pika, I realized how far up we were. There was also a gang of about three elk that watched us walk to the peak marker.
Towards the end of that day, as we were making our way back to camp, it rained and hailed on our group. As we gathered for shelter, I realized in that moment that maybe the lesson to be learned was endurance.
“Endurance is not just the ability to bear a hard thing, but to turn it into glory.” — William Barclay
