Redefinition | The Series
How do you navigate dating in a black queer space? I want to use this series to tell curated stories from the perspectives of real people in our community.
The PurposeMy intention is to consistently cultivate the challenging of the mind, traditions, and habits. I am most excited about hearing the different perspectives. The black queer community has so many layers of intellect and understanding that I hope this space will help you learn something new.
The Topics-
Navigating the duality in queer spaces can be complex. How does feeling the need to code-switch in spaces feel compared to dating in spaces that are familiar? Does dating another Black queer feel safe/familiar— not needing to explain cultural meaning or even your lived experience?
-
How often are we asked about our astrological compatibility before asking about emotional or financial compatibility? How do you handle conflict? Are you emotionally available?
-
How do you handle/process the hypersexualization, masc/femme dynamics, or racial fetishization? Do you, or do you even know how to, set boundaries with them?
-
What does a successful relationship look like to you? What are some key milestones for you in a relationship? How would you redefine intimacy outside of heterosexual spaces?
